John Nelder Deceased
John Nelder, a former IBS President and Honorary Life Member of the society (elected in 2006), died on Saturday 7th August 2010. John, of the British & Irish Region, had a massive influence on the society and on the profession and his enthusiastic contributions to society conferences will be greatly missed. An obituary will follow in the next issue of the Biometric Bulletin.
Montserrat Fuentes Appointed JABES Editor
Kaye Basford, President of the International Biometric Society, announced today that Montserrat Fuentes was appointed to the position of Editor, Journal of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics (JABES). JABES---published jointly by the IBS and the American Statistical Association---publishes articles of immediate and practical value to applied researchers and statistical consultants in the agricultural sciences, the biological sciences (including biotechnology), and the environmental sciences (including those dealing with natural resources). Donate to the Travel Awards Fund
To maintain the global nature of the International Biometric Conference, it is important that IBS members from all parts of the world be financially able to attend the Conference. In order to do so, IBS provides travel funds to members from developing countries to help offset costs. IBS solicits travel fund donations from members, corporations and institutions. Nominate a Colleague for Honorary Life Member
Nominations are being sought for Honorary Life Members of the Society. Awarded at the International Biometric Conference in Florianóplis, Brazil, this award is considered the highest honor of the Society. Click here to download procedures for nominations.
Nominations Solicited for Honors of the Society
IBS members are invited to nominate colleagues for the Honors of the Society. These include the Bob Kempton Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Biometry in the Developing World and the Award for the Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the IBS. Deadline for nominations is 1 July 2010 and criteria for Honors are available here.
